The short version#
Qubis is a nutrition app made by Ejago Inc. You photograph a meal, we work out what is on the plate, and we keep that history so your day, week and month add up. This page explains exactly what that means for your data.
We never sell your data
No data brokers, no advertising SDK, no ad identifier — Qubis explicitly blocks the Android advertising ID permission.
Your meals are yours
Meal photos and nutrition history are tied to your account and used to give you your own numbers back. Nothing is published or shared with other users.
Deletion is one tap
Delete Account lives in the app’s settings, and you can ask us to do it for you at any time.
The sections below are the full detail. If anything is unclear, email support@qubis.co and a human will answer.
What we collect#
Account details
Your name and email address, plus a password if you signed up with one. If you used Sign in with Apple or Google Sign-In, we receive the identity token those services issue and store the account identifier, name and email it contains — never your Apple or Google password.
If you turn on biometric login, the credential it unlocks is written to your device’s secure keychain or keystore. It never leaves the device and we cannot read it. Your fingerprint and face data belong to iOS and Android; Qubis never receives them.
Profile and goals
Date of birth, gender, height, weight, activity level, dietary preferences, unit and language preference, and the calorie, protein, carbohydrate, fat and fibre targets derived from them or set by you.
Meals, photos and nutrition history
Photos you scan or pick from your library, the food items and portions detected in them, any corrections you make, meal times and categories, notes, favourites, water intake, and the supplements you register along with your daily intake log. Your nutrition score history and streaks are derived from these.
Health and activity
With your explicit permission, Qubis reads steps, workouts and active energy from Apple Health (iOS) or Health Connect (Android) to personalise your calorie and protein targets, and writes the meals you log back so your nutrition stays in sync with the rest of your health apps. This permission is optional and revocable from the operating system at any time.
Voice
Voice logging uses the speech recognition built into iOS and Android. The audio is handled by the platform’s recogniser; Qubis receives the resulting text, and the text is processed like any other meal entry. We do not store recordings.
Device and technical data
A device identifier and push token if you enable notifications, app version, operating system, device language, and diagnostic information when something fails. Access and refresh tokens for your session are kept in app storage on your device.
Purchases
Whether you have an active Qubis Plus subscription, and the receipt or purchase proof the App Store or Google Play issues, which our server verifies with Apple or Google. Payment is taken by the store — we never see your card details.
Feedback
If you send feedback through the in-app rating prompt, we store what you wrote so we can act on it.
How we use it#
- To identify a meal photo and estimate its calories, macros and micronutrients.
- To keep your log, totals, streaks, nutrition score and recaps consistent across every device you sign in on.
- To calculate and adjust your daily targets from your profile and, if connected, your activity.
- To generate your weekly and monthly recaps, insights and supplement suggestions.
- To send the notifications you have switched on — meal reminders, streak alerts, recaps.
- To check whether your Qubis Plus entitlement is active.
- To answer support requests, and to fix crashes and detection errors.
- To meet legal, tax and accounting obligations.
AI analysis of your meal photos#
When you scan a meal, the photo is sent to a vision model for identification. Qubis uses Google Gemini as the primary model and falls back to OpenAI if that call fails. Detected food names are then looked up against the FatSecret nutrition database — only the food name is sent, never your photo or anything about you.
These providers process the image to return a result. Both Google and OpenAI state that data submitted through their paid API services is not used to train their models. Your photo is not labelled with your identity when it is sent for analysis.
Permissions the app asks for#
Every one of these is optional. Declining one turns off the feature that needs it and nothing else, and you can change your mind at any time in your device settings.
Camera
To scan a meal. Photos are only captured when you press the shutter.
Photo library
To analyse a meal photo you already took, and to set a profile picture.
Microphone & speech
To log a meal or correct a detection by voice.
Motion
To steady the framing guide while you line up a scan. Read on device only.
Health / Health Connect
To read steps, workouts and active energy, and to write the meals you log.
Notifications
To send meal reminders, streak alerts and your weekly recap.
Face ID / biometrics
To unlock the app without typing your password. Handled by the OS.
Not requested
Location, contacts, and the Android advertising ID are never requested.
How long we keep it#
- While your account is open. Your profile, meals, photos, supplements and history stay available so your history stays complete.
- Scan images you never save. An image uploaded during a scan that is never attached to a logged meal is removed automatically within 24 hours.
- After you delete your account. Your account and personal data are removed from live systems immediately, and purged from encrypted backups within 30 days.
- Records we must keep. Purchase and tax records are retained for as long as accounting law requires, independently of your account.
Data stored on your own device — cached entries, preferences, the biometric credential — is removed when you sign out or uninstall the app.
Your rights and choices#
Depending on where you live, you have the right to access, correct, export, restrict or delete your personal data, to object to certain processing, and to withdraw consent at any time. You will never receive worse service for exercising any of them.
- Correct it yourself. Profile, goals, email, password, notification preferences and every logged meal are editable in the app.
- Delete an account. Settings → Profile → Delete Account, or follow the account deletion guide.
- Delete some data but keep the account. See data deletion.
- Withdraw a permission. Revoke camera, microphone, health or notification access in iOS or Android settings.
- Get a copy. Email support@qubis.co and we will send you an export of your data.
We respond to requests within 30 days. If you are in the EEA or UK and believe we have handled your data badly, you may complain to your local data protection authority.
How we protect it#
Traffic between the app and our servers travels over TLS. Passwords are stored only in hashed form. Session tokens live in app storage on your device and the biometric credential sits in the platform keychain or keystore, protected by your device passcode. Access to production systems is limited to the people who need it.
No system is perfect. If a breach ever affects your personal data, we will notify you and the relevant regulator as the law requires.
Children#
Qubis is not intended for children under 13, or under 16 in the EEA and UK, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has created an account, email support@qubis.co and we will delete it.
International transfers#
Qubis is operated by Ejago Inc. and our providers run in several countries, so your data may be processed outside the country you live in — including in the United States. Where we move personal data out of the EEA or UK, we rely on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or an equivalent safeguard.
Changes to this policy#
We will update this page when the app changes. The date at the top always reflects the current version. If a change materially affects how we use your data, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
