Privacy Policy

1. Overview

Qubis ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. Qubis is a calorie and macro tracking application designed natively for Apple Watch and iPhone. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our app, website, and related services.

We prioritize your privacy. Unlike many competitors, Qubis stores all your nutrition and health data on your device. We do not operate a cloud-based data repository. Your data never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to share it.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

• Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your email address and a password you create. You may also provide a display name.
• Nutrition Data: Food items, meals, calories, macros (protein, carbohydrates, fat), and custom food entries you log within the app.
• Profile Information: Age, sex, height, weight, activity level, and weight goals you enter to calculate your daily calorie and macronutrient targets.
• Payment Information: If you purchase a premium subscription, payment is processed by the Apple App Store. We do not store your credit card or billing information.

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

• Device Data: Device type, iOS/watchOS version, app version, and language preference. This data is used for app optimization and crash reporting.
• Usage Data: Anonymized, aggregated data about how you use the app (e.g., which features are used most, session duration). This helps us improve the product.
• Crash Reports: Diagnostic information when the app crashes, used solely for fixing bugs and improving stability.

2.3 HealthKit & Apple Health Data

Qubis integrates with Apple HealthKit to read and write certain health data with your explicit permission. With your consent, we may:

• Read: Body measurements (weight, height), active calories burned, nutrition data (dietary energy, macronutrients) if recorded by other apps.
• Write: Dietary calories consumed, macronutrients (protein, carbohydrates, fat), and water intake you log through Qubis.

You can revoke HealthKit access at any time through your iOS Settings → Privacy → Health → Qubis. Revoking access will not delete data already recorded by Qubis.

2.4 Apple Watch Data

Qubis uses the watchOS workout and activity APIs to read Apple Watch workout data (active calories, duration, exercise minutes) to correlate with your nutrition intake. This data remains on your device and is used solely to provide personalized nutrition recommendations within the app.

3. How We Use Your Information

• Provide, maintain, and improve our services
• Calculate your personalized daily calorie and macronutrient targets
• Sync nutrition data with Apple Health when you opt in
• Send you service-related notifications (e.g., meal reminders, goal achievements)
• Process premium subscriptions via the Apple App Store
• Respond to your support requests
• Detect, prevent, and address technical issues and fraud
• Aggregate anonymized usage data for product improvement

4. Data Storage and Security

On-Device Storage: The majority of your data — including all nutrition logs, body measurements, and personal profile information — is stored exclusively on your device using iOS Keychain and SQLite databases protected by iOS data protection standards.

iCloud Sync (Optional): If you enable iCloud sync in Qubis settings, your data is encrypted and stored in your personal iCloud account. This data is protected by your iCloud credentials and Apple's iCloud security infrastructure. We do not have access to your iCloud data.

No Cloud Database: We do not maintain a cloud database of user nutrition or health data. This is a core design decision to maximize your privacy.

Encryption: All data transmitted between the app and our limited backend services (crash reporting, analytics) uses TLS 1.2 or higher encryption.

5. Third-Party Services

Qubis uses the following third-party services:

• Apple Inc.: App Store (payments), HealthKit (health data), iCloud (optional sync). Your use of Apple services is governed by Apple's privacy policies.
• Firebase (Google): Crashlytics for crash reporting and Firebase Analytics for anonymized usage data. Data collected is aggregated and anonymous. See Firebase Privacy.
• Amplitude: Product analytics to understand feature usage. Data is anonymized and used solely for product improvement. See Amplitude Privacy.
• Food Database APIs: To provide nutritional information, Qubis may query third-party food databases. These services receive only the food item name you search for — no personal health data is shared.

6. Children's Privacy

Qubis is not intended for use by children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us at privacy@qubis.app and we will promptly delete the data.

7. California Residents (CCPA)

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), California residents have specific rights regarding their personal information. We do not sell personal information. The categories of information we collect are described in Section 2 above. You have the right to request access to or deletion of your data. 8. European Economic Area (GDPR)

If you are located in the EEA, you have the following rights under the General Data Protection Regulation:

• Right to access your personal data
• Right to rectification (correction of inaccurate data)
• Right to erasure ("right to be forgotten")
• Right to restrict processing
• Right to data portability
• Right to object to processing

9. Data Retention

Your data is retained on your device for as long as you use Qubis. If you delete the app, all locally stored data is removed from your device. If you have enabled iCloud sync, deleting the app does not delete your iCloud-stored data; you must delete it separately through iCloud settings. We retain anonymized, aggregated analytics data indefinitely for product improvement purposes.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by updating the "Effective date" at the top of this page and, for significant changes, by providing in-app notice. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
